Legal Administrative Assistant – Family Law

Mills Family Law is seeking a Legal Administrative Assistant to join our growing Family Law practice. Primary Responsibilities

  • Scheduling court dates, mediations, discoveries, and coordinating with registries
  • Filing court documents and applications
  • Tracking court and limitation dates
  • Drafting legal correspondence and pleadings
  • Assisting with affidavits, applications, trial briefs, and orders
  • Compiling application records, exhibits, authorities, and indexes
  • Managing files and bring-forward systems
  • Handling calendars, emails, and lawyer practice support
  • Preparing monthly billing
  • Liaising with paralegals, clients, and opposing counsel
  • Performing general administrative tasks as needed

Qualifications and Skills

  • Completion of a Legal Administrative Assistant program or equivalent experience
  • At least 3 years’ Family Law Legal Assistant experience
  • Proficient in court filings, applications, and drafting legal documents
  • Familiar with Provincial and Supreme Court family law registry procedures
  • Understanding of BC civil litigation and family law practices, including applicable Court Rules
  • Experience with alternative dispute resolution is an asset
  • Strong technical skills: Microsoft Office, DivorceMate, Adobe, BC Online
  • Excellent communication, organization, and attention to detail
  • Skilled at managing high workloads and shifting priorities
  • Collaborative, client-focused, and service-oriented
  • Follows instructions, meets deadlines, and maintains discretion and adaptability
